Description

Delicious and vibrant Red Velvet Waffles topped with a smooth and creamy cream cheese glaze. Perfect for a special breakfast or brunch treat, these waffles combine classic red velvet flavors with a fluffy texture and a sweet coating that melts in your mouth.

Ingredients

Scale

Cream Cheese Glaze

  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
  • ½ cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Red Velvet Waffles

  • 2 cups Bisquick mix
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 30 drops red gel food coloring
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Make the cream cheese glaze: Beat the softened butter and cream cheese together until soft and smooth. Add the powdered sugar and continue beating until the mixture is light and fluffy, scraping down the sides of the bowl to ensure it is lump free.
  2. Add milk and vanilla to glaze: Mix in the whole milk and vanilla extract into the cream cheese mixture. Set the glaze aside while you prepare the waffles.
  3. Preheat the waffle iron: Heat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions to ensure it's properly hot for cooking.
  4. Mix dry ingredients for waffles: In a medium bowl, whisk together the Bisquick mix, brown sugar, and unsweetened cocoa powder until evenly combined.
  5. Add wet ingredients to batter: Pour in the buttermilk, whole milk, red gel food coloring, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Whisk everything together until the batter is smooth and uniform in color.
  6. Cook the waffles: Pour about ¾ cup of the batter into the preheated waffle iron. Close the lid and cook for 5 minutes or until the waffle easily pulls away, with a soft inside, slightly crispy outside, and a hint of browning on the surface.
  7. Serve with glaze: Drizzle the warm waffles with the cream cheese glaze while hot. Repeat cooking with the remaining batter and serve immediately for best results.

Notes

  • Adjust the milk in the cream cheese glaze to control thickness: add more milk to thin it or reduce to ¼ cup for a thicker frosting.
  • For a buttermilk substitute, combine 1 tablespoon white vinegar with 1 cup regular milk, let it curdle to mimic buttermilk texture and flavor.
  • Omit brown sugar from the waffle batter to reduce sweetness, as the cream cheese glaze provides sufficient sweetness.
