Ingredients
Scale
Truffle Mixture
- 36-42 golden Oreo cookies
- 6 ounce cream cheese, room temperature
- 20 drops pink food coloring, divided
Coating & Decoration
- 16 ounces vanilla candy coating
- Favorite Valentine sprinkles
Instructions
- Prepare Oreo Crumbs: Place 36 to 42 golden Oreo cookies in a food processor or a sealed plastic bag and crush them into fine crumbs using a processor or rolling pin.
- Mix Ingredients: Transfer the Oreo crumbs to a mixer or keep in the food processor. Add 6 ounces of softened cream cheese and 10 drops of pink food coloring. Mix thoroughly until the mixture reaches a consistency that sticks together well.
- Form Truffle Balls: Using a small ice cream scoop, melon baller, or rounded teaspoon, scoop uniform amounts of the mixture. Roll each portion into 1 1/4 inch balls with your palms. Place the balls on a parchment-lined cookie sheet and freeze while preparing the coating. You should get about 24 balls.
- Melt Candy Coating: Break up 16 ounces of vanilla candy coating and place in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 20 second bursts, stirring between each burst until smooth and fully melted, about 1 to 2 minutes.
- Coat the Truffles: Using a fork or dipping tool, dip each frozen truffle ball into the melted candy coating. Let excess coating drip off by tapping against the bowl’s edge. Place coated truffles on parchment paper.
- Decorate: While the coating is still soft, sprinkle your favorite Valentine sprinkles over the truffles.
- Set the Coating: Return the tray of coated truffles to the refrigerator and chill for at least 15 minutes to allow the coating to fully set.
- Serve: Serve the truffles at room temperature for the best taste and texture. Enjoy your festive Valentine’s treat!
Notes
- Store Oreo balls in the refrigerator until serving. They taste best cold but can be left at room temperature for up to 2 hours due to cream cheese safety guidelines.
- Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
- You can freeze the truffles for up to 3 months; thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving.
- If you don’t have a food processor, crush the Oreo cookies in a sealed bag with a rolling pin, making sure to include the filling.
- If the mixture is too thin to roll into balls, add additional cookie crumbs to achieve the right consistency.
- Use a toothpick to remove excess candy coating from the fork before placing each truffle on the parchment paper for a cleaner finish.
- Before the coating sets, add additional decorations like cookie crumbs, sprinkles, crushed candy, or chopped nuts. You can also drizzle melted chocolate over the hardened coating for extra flair.
