Description

This Easy Layered Taco Bake is a delicious and convenient American main course featuring layers of seasoned ground beef, salsa con queso, flour tortillas, and melted Mexican cheese baked to perfection. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner, it combines classic taco flavors in a satisfying casserole form.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Seasoning

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 3/4 cup water

Other Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup salsa con queso
  • 3 (8-inch) flour tortillas
  • 2 cups shredded Mexican cheese blend, divided

Instructions

  1. Brown the Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, brown and crumble 1 pound of ground beef. Once fully cooked, drain any excess grease from the pan.
  2. Season the Meat: Add 1 packet of taco seasoning and 3/4 cup water as directed on the seasoning packet to the browned beef. Stir well and cook until the mixture thickens according to packet instructions.
  3. Add Salsa Con Queso: Remove the skillet from heat and stir in 1/2 cup of salsa con queso evenly into the taco meat mixture.
  4. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and spray an 8-inch round baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  5. Layer Ingredients: Place one 8-inch flour tortilla on the bottom of the prepared baking pan. Spread about one-third of the taco meat mixture evenly over the tortilla, then sprinkle one-third of the shredded Mexican cheese on top. Repeat this layering process two more times, ending with cheese on the final layer.
  6. Bake: Bake the layered taco bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the edges are beginning to turn golden brown.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the taco bake to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve with your favorite toppings such as sour cream, tomatoes, or lettuce.

Notes

  • If salsa con queso is too spicy, substitute with a regular cheese dip for milder flavor.
  • Flour tortillas can be substituted with corn tortillas for a gluten-free option if desired, but the recipe as written is not gluten free.
  • Use freshly shredded cheese for the best melt and flavor.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
  • For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with plant-based meat alternatives.
