Description

Delicious homemade peppermint patties made with just five simple ingredients. These festive treats feature a creamy peppermint filling coated in smooth semi-sweet chocolate and decorated with colorful Christmas sprinkles, perfect for holiday celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Chocolate Coating

  • 3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 teaspoons coconut oil or shortening

Decoration

  • Christmas sprinkles (green, red, and white, any shape)

Instructions

  1. Make Filling: In the bowl of a stand mixer or a large mixing bowl with an electric hand mixer, combine the sweetened condensed milk and peppermint extract. Beat in the powdered sugar one cup at a time until a stiff dough forms.
  2. Shape Patties: Using a cookie scoop, form 1-inch balls (about the size of a ping pong ball) onto a baking sheet lined with a non-stick mat. Press down on each ball to flatten slightly into patties. Allow them to dry for 2 hours, flipping once halfway through for even drying.
  3. Melt Chocolate: When the drying time is nearly complete, place the chocolate chips and coconut oil into a saucepan over medium heat. Stir continuously as the chocolate melts until it becomes smooth. Remove from heat.
  4. Coat Patties: Dip each peppermint patty into the melted chocolate until fully coated. Place the coated patties back onto the lined baking sheet to set. While the chocolate is still wet, gently press the Christmas sprinkles on top for decoration.

Notes

  • Use a non-stick mat or parchment paper to prevent sticking while shaping and setting the patties.
  • For an extra smooth chocolate coating, temper the chocolate or use a double boiler method.
  • If coconut oil is unavailable, shortening or a neutral oil can be used as a substitute to help smooth the melted chocolate.
  • Ensure patties dry completely before dipping to prevent cracking in the chocolate coating.
  • Store finished peppermint patties in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator to keep them fresh.
