Description

Grinch Christmas Crack is a festive and delicious holiday treat featuring a crispy saltine cracker base topped with buttery toffee, melted green candy coating, and colorful sprinkles. It's sweet, crunchy, and perfect for sharing during the Christmas season.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 35-40 saltine crackers

Toffee Topping

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar

Candy Coating and Decorations

  • 2 cups light green candy melts (about 1 12-ounce bag)
  • Red heart sprinkles
  • Green sprinkles of choice

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a 10 x 15-inch baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Arrange Crackers: Lay out 35-40 saltine crackers in even rows on the prepared baking sheet, covering the entire bottom evenly. Set aside while preparing the toffee.
  3. Make Toffee Mixture: In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, melt 1 cup of unsalted butter with 1 cup packed brown sugar. Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a full boil. Continue boiling for 3 minutes or until the temperature reaches between 270-290 degrees Fahrenheit.
  4. Pour Toffee over Crackers: Carefully pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the arranged saltine crackers. Use a heat-safe spatula to spread the toffee evenly across the surface. Immediately place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 5 minutes.
  5. Add Candy Coating: Remove the pan from the oven. Evenly sprinkle 2 cups of light green candy melts over the hot toffee. Let the candy melts sit for 3 minutes to melt completely.
  6. Spread and Decorate: Using a spatula, spread the melted candy evenly over the toffee-coated crackers. Quickly sprinkle red heart sprinkles and green sprinkles of choice over the top before the coating sets.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the Christmas Crack to cool completely at room temperature until the candy hardens. Break it into pieces and serve.

Notes

  • Store at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 7 days to maintain crispness.
  • For longer storage, refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
  • Freeze leftover pieces in an airtight container or freezer bag for up to 3 months, separating layers with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  • Use a candy thermometer to ensure the toffee reaches the correct temperature for perfect hard crack texture.
  • Substitute candy melts colors to customize for other holidays or occasions.
