Description

The Dirty Snowman is a rich and indulgent adult hot chocolate recipe featuring a scoop of vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup and sprinkles on the rim, and a blend of Kahlua and dark creme de cacao liqueur. This decadent drink is topped with whipped cream and optional garnishes for a festive and cozy treat perfect for chilly evenings.

Ingredients

Scale

Rim Decoration

  • 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate sprinkles

Main Drink

  • ½ cup vanilla ice cream (1 scoop)
  • ¼ cup Kahlua
  • 1 tablespoon dark creme de cacao liqueur
  • 1 cup hot chocolate

Garnish

  • Whipped cream
  • Mini chocolate chips, coarse sanding sugar, additional chocolate syrup and chocolate sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the rim: Pour 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup onto a small plate. Turn the glass upside down and dip the rim into the chocolate syrup ensuring it is evenly coated.
  2. Coat the rim: Immediately dip the chocolate syrup-coated rim into a shallow dish containing 1 tablespoon chocolate sprinkles to create a decorative, chocolatey edge.
  3. Add ice cream: Place one scoop (½ cup) of vanilla ice cream into the prepared glass or mug.
  4. Add the liqueurs: Pour ¼ cup Kahlua and 1 tablespoon dark creme de cacao liqueur over the ice cream in the glass.
  5. Pour hot chocolate: Gently pour 1 cup of hot chocolate over the ice cream and liqueurs to fill the glass.
  6. Top and garnish: Add a generous swirl of whipped cream on top. Garnish with mini chocolate chips, coarse sanding sugar, additional chocolate syrup, and/or chocolate sprinkles as desired for extra texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Prepare the drink just before serving to maintain the ice cream texture and fresh garnishes.
  • Hot chocolate and liqueur quantities can be increased and combined in advance, but pour over individual glasses with ice cream scoop right before serving.
  • Feel free to experiment with other liquors like rum, coconut rum, Bailey’s, or chocolate vodka for different flavor profiles.
  • Substituting chocolate ice cream or combining vanilla and chocolate ice cream will intensify the richness.
  • This drink is quite rich; if desired, increase the alcohol for a stronger kick since the hot chocolate and ice cream balance the flavors well.
  • Use a quality hot chocolate mix or homemade recipe for best taste; the Hershey’s cocoa powder recipe is recommended.
