Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 large avocado (ripe but slightly firm)
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (more as needed)
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon fine sea salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 3 tablespoons non-dairy milk (plain, unsweetened)
- ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
- Oil spray
For Serving
- Chipotle mayo (for dipping)
Instructions
- Cut avocado: Cut the avocado in half, remove the peel and pit, then slice into ¼-inch thick slices carefully to maintain shape.
- Prep coatings: In a small shallow bowl, mix together flour, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Pour non-dairy milk into a second small bowl. Place panko breadcrumbs in a third small bowl.
- Coat avocado: Working one slice at a time, dredge the avocado slice in the seasoned flour ensuring even coverage. Next, dip it into the non-dairy milk, then transfer to the panko breadcrumbs to coat both sides completely. Use one hand for dry ingredients and the other for wet to keep the process orderly.
- Arrange and spray: Place the coated avocado slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Spray the tops lightly with oil spray to promote crispiness.
- Air fry: Cook the avocado fries in the air fryer at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 12 minutes, until golden brown and crispy. There is no need to preheat the air fryer.
- Season and serve: While still hot, season with additional salt and pepper if desired. Serve immediately with chipotle mayo for dipping.
- Optional oven method: Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Place avocado fries on a parchment-lined baking sheet and spray tops with oil. Bake for 10 minutes, flip slices, spray again, and bake for an additional 10 minutes until crispy and golden.
Notes
- For easier coating, keep one hand dry for handling dry ingredients and the other wet for dipping in milk to prevent clumping.
- The oven method takes about 20 minutes total; flipping halfway helps achieve even crispness.
- Best served fresh to maintain crisp texture. These fries pair well with chipotle mayo or vegan Dijon aioli.
- You can also enjoy these avocado fries in tacos, wraps, or bowls as a flavorful crunchy topping.
