Description

Cheeseburger Spring Rolls combine the classic flavors of a cheeseburger with the crispy, crunchy texture of a spring roll. Ground beef seasoned with ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and spices is mixed with cheddar cheese and pickles, then wrapped in spring roll wrappers and fried or air-fried to golden perfection. Served with a variety of dipping sauces, these make an irresistible appetizer or snack that's quick and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 for best flavor)
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or American cheese
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped dill pickles

Wrapper and Sealant

  • 12 spring roll wrappers (thawed if frozen)
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 3 tablespoons water

For Cooking and Serving

  • Oil for frying (about 2 inches deep)
  • Spray oil (for air frying, optional)
  • Mix of ketchup and mayonnaise (for dipping)
  • Sweet chili sauce and sour cream (alternative dipping sauce)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Beef and Onions: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and finely diced onion. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the meat is browned with crispy edges and the onions are soft, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain all the grease from the skillet.
  2. Season the Filling: Stir in ketchup, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, and freshly cracked black pepper. Mix thoroughly and cook for another minute. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool for 5 minutes.
  3. Add Cheese and Pickles: Once cooled, gently fold in the shredded cheddar or American cheese and finely chopped dill pickles until combined.
  4. Prepare the Wrappers: Keep the spring roll wrappers covered with a damp towel to prevent drying out while you work. In a small bowl, mix the flour and water to create a paste that will be used to seal the rolls.
  5. Fill and Roll: Place one spring roll wrapper on a clean surface. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the filling into the center. Fold the sides inward, then roll tightly like a burrito. Seal the edges using the flour paste. Avoid overfilling to prevent bursting during cooking. Repeat for all wrappers.
  6. Fry the Rolls: Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F. Fry 3 to 4 spring rolls at a time for 3 to 4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Alternative Air Frying Method: Spritz the rolls lightly with oil and place them in the air fryer basket. Air fry at 390°F for 10 to 12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until crisp and golden.
  8. Serve: Serve the cheeseburger spring rolls hot with dips such as a mixture of ketchup and mayonnaise or sweet chili sauce paired with sour cream.
  9. Freezing Tips: To freeze uncooked rolls, place them on a parchment-lined tray and freeze until solid. Transfer to a zip-top bag. Cook from frozen, adding 1 to 2 minutes to the frying or air frying time.

Notes

  • For best flavor, use 80/20 ground beef to keep the filling juicy.
  • Keep spring roll wrappers covered with a damp cloth to prevent them from drying out and tearing while assembling.
  • Do not overfill the wrappers to avoid bursting during frying.
  • Drain excess grease from cooked beef to keep the filling from becoming greasy.
  • If air frying, lightly spray the rolls with oil to achieve a crispy texture similar to frying.
  • Freeze uncooked rolls individually on a tray before transferring to a bag for easy portioning.
  • Use cheddar or American cheese for authentic cheeseburger flavor.
